Graceland the 2nd

Home made from same plans as Graceland

In 1955 the band performed in a town in where a Doctor two years earlier had a house built using the same blue prints that were used to build Graceland in 1938. Though the house would unlikely have any significance to Elvis at the time they performed in this Southern State and town, two years before buying Graceland, it is said that Elvis was eventually aware of the home and may have been on the property at some point.

Back in the summer of 2007 one of the members of the FECC went to go look at the home, took these pictures and had this to say about it. This home sits on 32 acre's of land and includes a 4 acre lake.  One of the first noticeable differences of the home when one compares it to Graceland is that it has brick on the exterior of the home where Graceland has Rock.  The home has 5 over sized bedrooms with a bathroom in each bedroom. The home unlike Graceland, has no basement but did have a bomb shelter. The square footage of the home is 7200 square ft has an out door swimming pool with pool house and an oversized three car garage.

The interior of this home hasn't changed all that much from when it was first built in the 50's, still it was very cool to see, he said.

Another example in the main foyer the first set of stairs leading up to the bedroom have seventeen levels where Graceland has fifteen.

All bedrooms are upstairs except one.  The stairs wrap around to the second floor, to the left was the first bedroom, then the second to the right were the two other bedrooms, in reality this was set up slightly different then Graceland, the basic design of the home which was based on the same blue prints as Graceland used the same basic layout of Graceland though slight changes were made to suit this owner.

The bedroom on the main floor was used as the master bedroom for this home, off to the side of the bedroom was an office and then off from the office is a music room, which was on the same side of the home as Elvis' Graceland.

The reason by the way that they were able to use the Graceland blueprints was because the owner of this home was a Doctor who knew the other Doctor in Memphis who originally owned Graceland. They hooked up one evening in the early 50's when this Doctor was planning on building his home and the Doctor who owned Graceland offered the blueprints.
